Gary Smiley Alix, 68, of Smithfield, Rhode Island, peacefully entered the presence of Jesus on April 28, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with ALS. Born on March 19, 1957, in Pawtucket, RI, Gary lived a life marked by faith, family, and unwavering love.

Gary was a devoted husband to Kim Alix, celebrating 44 years of a marriage built on commitment, compassion, and Christ-centered love. Together, they raised two children, Megan and Craig Alix, and later lovingly welcomed their biological grandson, Quinn Alix, into their home as their adopted son. Gary’s heart expanded even more with the arrival of his beloved grandchildren: Theodore, Cambelle, and Asher — each one holding a special place in his life and prayers.

A remodeling contractor by trade, Gary was known for his meticulous craftsmanship and relentless pursuit of perfection — not for accolades, but because he believed that every detail mattered. That same diligence flowed into every area of his life, especially his relationships. Whether hiking Knife’s Edge, mountain biking with friends, playing tennis, or pulling out his flute for a spontaneous tune, Gary brought joy and laughter wherever he went. He loved cheering on Quinn at his sporting events, making countless treasured trips to Ohio to visit his grandchildren, and especially cherished the simple moments — like having Asher sit contentedly on his lap.

At the core of Gary’s life was an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. His walk with God was not just a private devotion; it was lived out in acts of service, generosity, and kindness. Gary volunteered faithfully at church, always ready to lend a hand, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement. He was down-to-earth, passionately loyal, and deeply rooted in gratitude — often quoting one of his favorite Scriptures:
"This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24)

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Kim; his children, Megan, Craig, and Quinn; his grandchildren, Theodore, Cambelle, and Asher; and his brother Al Alix and sister Karen Grant. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Albert and June Alix, with whom he now rejoices in heaven.

Gary’s legacy is one of steadfast faith, selfless love, and a life well-lived. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that he is now fully healed and fully alive in the presence of his Savior.

Calling hours and the funeral service will be held at Keefe Funeral Home in Lincoln, RI on Monday, May 5th, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, followed immediately by a funeral service from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS United Rhode Island.
